Dear Chicago Bulls

Another year has come and gone and I find myself with thoughts eerily similar to the last several seasons. I find myself hoping it’ll be different this time around on each trade deadline day. They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, and today the insanity stops.

Last offseason I laid out several different pathways the Bulls’ organization could take that would be considered acceptable. Their options were to: Run It Back, Retool, or Rebuild. They, predictably, went for a slight retool by signing some new veterans and hoping everything else would fall into place.

It was reasonable for a while and yet fairly quickly it became obvious that this group cannot in any way be considered a contender in the near future. I see it, Bulls fans around me see it, NBA fans throughout the world see it, and yet Artūras Karnišovas and Marc Eversley (jointly known as AKME) somehow do not see it. The Reinsdorf family has shown that they have no desire to win, only to be profitable, and so without any accountability for AKME, we as a team and fanbase remain stuck on the proverbial hamster wheel of mediocrity.

Knowing what we do about the Chicago Bulls’ ownership, only one thing can truly force change. As a collective fan base, we can no longer continue supporting this team and giving them our money. The Chicago Bulls remain the top attendance for home games despite missing the playoffs in 6 of the last 8 seasons, not advancing past the first round of the playoffs since the 2014–15 season, and not reaching even the conference finals since the 2010–11 season. Until we see a real level of change, I humbly request that we stop going to games.

Artūras repeatedly said in his trade deadline press conference that the ultimate goal is to remain competitive, and yet the definition of competitive for him compared to the rest of us must be quite different. We don’t hang banners in Chicago for making (and losing in) the play-in tournament. While he may not believe in taking a step back to move forward, surely he believes in taking a step forward in some way. The only trade made by the Chicago Bulls since 2021 involved the draft night acquisition of the rights to 2nd round draft pick Julian Phillips. I wonder if Artūras has any comments on how much more competitive we became as a result of that trade.

As a die-hard Bulls fan, it’s heartbreaking to witness the ongoing decline of our team. Each passing season only adds to the disappointment and disillusionment we feel. We’ve been through it all, cheering through victories and enduring the painful losses. But with each year that passes, our faith in the team’s direction wanes. The Bulls have a proud history, built on resilience and championship success, yet it’s disheartening to see that legacy overshadowed by mediocrity. Together, as a passionate fanbase, we hold the power to demand change. Let’s unite and send a clear message to the front office: we’re tired of settling for less. It’s time to reignite the fire of our Bulls' pride and demand accountability. We can’t stand idly by while our team falls short. It’s time to rise up and fight for the future of our beloved Bulls.

Sincerely,

The entire Chicago Bulls fanbase
